How to Do a Rabona

The Rabona is a soccer trick involving crossing your legs to chip the ball. You can see players like Ricardo Quaresma or Cristiano Ronaldo do this trick occasionally. With this technique, you can pass, cross or shoot! Just read this and you will be a master at this trick!

Steps

  1. Dribble slowly with the ball.
  2. Using your dominant foot:
    • Right footed?: Cross your right foot behind your left foot and chip it with your right foot.
    • Left footed?: Same thing, but cross your left foot behind your right foot and chip it with your left foot.
  3. One very important thing is to keep your non-kicking foot slightly pointing to the ball and not parallel with the ball
  4. Hit the ball with your laces, not your toes, as the kick will lack accuracy.
  5. Like as if you were chipping the ball, hit the ball slightly underneath it to get some height on the ball for a shot or cross. For short passes, hit the ball in the centre so it stays low.
  6. Bend your knee of your non-kicking leg slightly so you can get under the ball easier and get more power in the kick.
  7. If you try to do the rabona when your non-kicking leg is too far away from the ball, you will miss the ball. If your non-kicking foot is too close to the ball, you will scuff the shot, hit the ball the wrong way or end up kicking your leg and injuring yourself.
